Find Your Community
Find Your People. Grow Your Spirit. Live Your Values.
This is where connection happens.
Social Groups are a place to connect, unwind, and build relationships that go beyond Sunday morning. Whether you’re new or have been around for years, this is where friendships start and community takes shape in everyday ways. Join the all-community chat to stay in the loop about gatherings, conversations, and spontaneous meetups, or find a more focused space in affinity groups centered around shared identities and lived experiences.
Some groups are light and social, others create space for deeper connection and mutual support. All are grounded in the same spirit of openness, respect, and belonging. However you show up, you’ll find people ready to welcome you, listen, and share life alongside you.
Adult Spiritual Development
Adult Spiritual Development at First Unitarian is all about creating space to explore what matters most in your life—at your own pace, in your own way, and in community with others. Whether you’re diving into theology, reflecting on your personal values, or simply looking for meaningful conversation, these offerings are designed to support your ongoing search for truth and meaning.
During Connection Hour, you’ll find a variety of opportunities to engage—small groups, discussion circles, and programs that invite curiosity, deep listening, and honest reflection. Some are short-term and drop-in friendly, while others offer a more immersive, ongoing experience. No matter where you are on your journey, there’s a place for you to connect, grow, and be challenged in supportive and thoughtful ways.

Parenting & Families
Parenting doesn’t come with a manual, but at First Unitarian it does come with community. Our Parenting & Families offerings are designed to support caregivers and kids alike, with space to connect, learn, and just be together. During Connection Hour, you’ll find a mix of parent and caregiver meetups, multigenerational activities, and opportunities for kids to play and build friendships in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Whether you’re looking to swap stories with other parents, find support in the joys and challenges of family life, or give your kids a place to belong, there’s a spot for you here. Come as you are, bring the whole crew, and find your people.
Music & Arts
At First Unitarian, music and the arts are central to how we connect, grow, and create together. Whether you love to sing, play, listen, create, or support things behind the scenes, there is a place for you to share your gifts.
From the choir, ukulele orchestra, Native American flute circle, and Handbell Ensemble to the Williams Gallery Art Committee and the First Light Players, there are opportunities for all ages and experience levels to get involved. You can also join the teams that make it all possible, including the AV Team and the Photography & Media Team, helping bring worship, events, and our shared story to life.
Together, we use music and artistic expression to reflect, celebrate, connect, and deepen the spiritual life of our community.
Serve Together
There are so many ways to get involved and make a meaningful difference—both within our congregation and out in the wider Rochester community. Whether you enjoy working behind the scenes or connecting directly with others, your time and talents help bring our shared values to life.
Within the church, volunteers support everything from welcoming newcomers and hosting Connection Hour, to helping with worship services, music, religious education, and events. These roles keep our community running and create the warm, vibrant experience people feel when they walk through our doors.
Beyond our walls, we partner with local organizations and grassroots efforts across Rochester to live out our commitment to justice, compassion, and community care. Opportunities include hands-on service projects, advocacy work, mutual aid efforts, and supporting initiatives chosen by our congregation.
However you choose to get involved, you’ll be part of something bigger—building connection, supporting one another, and helping create a more just and loving world right here in Rochester.

Social Groups
Social Groups at First Unitarian are all about connection without pressure. These are the spaces where friendships form naturally, whether you’re chatting over coffee, joining a casual meetup, or finding your people in an affinity group that reflects your identity or life experience.
You don’t need to be an expert, sign up for a long commitment, or have it all figured out. Just show up as you are. Some groups gather regularly, others pop up around shared interests or seasons, but all are grounded in the same spirit of welcome and belonging.
From all-community hangouts to smaller circles where you can connect more deeply, Social Groups offer an easy, meaningful way to build relationships and feel more at home here.
