Children & Youth Religious Education
Welcome to the religious education program at First Unitarian
Church of Rochester! We seek to provide a rich and
visible religious education program that engages a broad
cross-section of the church community in providing children
and youth with a strong sense of religious belonging, understanding,
and living. Throughout our program, kids are encouraged
to seek their own truths, to clarify their values, and to
live lives of meaning inspired by those values. We
help children honor the differences among us – e.g.,
diversity of race, ability, sexual orientation, and opinion – while
celebrating our shared humanity, and we strive to foster
their delight in the mysteries and miracles of the world.
The significant Unitarian Universalist identity component
in our program reflects our desire to cultivate each child's
religious growth by encouraging an ever-deepening understanding
of our faith.
During our Sunday morning worship services, we offer structured programming for pre-school and school-age children and youth, as well as loving care for infants and toddlers. In addition, we run a Youth Group for high schoolers on Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00. We have about 300 registered children and youth, and a teaching staff (nearly all volunteer) of close to 100 adults and teens.
The home is a child's primary center for spiritual growth, and we cherish our partnership with families! Check out our Church School Program Booklet for further information.
