Pastoral Care

It’s about…Grace!

We help people listen, open, and serve by providing…

  • Continuing compassionate presence
  • Ongoing community connection
  • Relationships of support
  • An opportunity to experience the giving of pastoral care as a spiritual practice

This ministry depends on the dedication and compassion of many seen and unseen individuals.  Giving and receiving of care is a gift to both the giver and the receiver; it replenishes the hearts of both.

Members of the Pastoral Care Ministry assist the ministers in identifying and meeting the pastoral needs of the congregation. We also engage the congregation in opportunities for involvement in the joys and sorrows of our church family.  We offer a variety of services to our congregants in times of need.

If you would like to become involved in the Pastoral Care Ministry, or if you are concerned about a church member or friend, please contact Rev. Tina Simson, Minister of Pastoral Care and Adult Spiritual Development | email | 585-330-9177.

What services do we offer ?

Pastoral Care Team

Members of the Pastoral Care Team provide pastoral care to friends and members of our congregation in need of support. They visit at homes, hospitals, and hospice or at the corner coffee shop.  They receive training from Rev. Tina Simson throughout their tenure on topics relevant to the care of our members in need and are provided support.  Team members are commissioned by the congregation in a ceremony that endorses their role in serving our church community.

Caring Connection
Caring connection volunteers are members of our journey groups.  To put their faith in action, group members offer meals and rides to individuals in need at a time of crisis or transition.

Memorial Services and Receptions
This service is offered to members or pledging friends of our church.  While the minister and family are planning the service, the Memorial Team arranges a simple reception and provides refreshments, servers, and assistance during the service.  We hope to make this time of difficulty little easier by taking care of these details.

Pastoral Care Table
Once a month after services, a member of the Pastoral Care Team is present at a table to provide information on life transition issues.  Information on advance directives, health care proxies, living wills, organ donation, and our Memorial Garden is also available.

Caring Quilts
Since 2004, members and friends of our church have decorated a variety of quilt squares that have been lovingly sewn into more than 15 beautiful quilts by dedicated volunteers.  Taken to people who are sick, lonely, or struggling, our Caring Quilts wrap around the members and friends of this congregation, embracing them with a message of inclusion, love, and comfort.

Education and Awareness Events
Members of the Pastoral Care Ministry bring in experts in their fields to speak on a variety of topics including navigating our changing health care system, caring for the caregiver, death and dying issues, elder abuse, and dealing with life transitions.

Flower Distribution
Caring people of the congregation deliver poinsettias and Easter plants to homebound members and friends.

Support Groups
Support groups meet on a range of topics such as living with grief and loss, coping with divorce or separation, and other life events as needed.
