442-1567; mforth@rochester.rr.com
Tuesdays: March 16 - April 20; 7pm - 9pm

The topic for the Spring Bible Study Class was chosen by vote of previous attendees. Repeatedly, folks have asked "Why Christianity?" "Why did Christianity transform from what it seems to have been during Jesus' own ministry and what it became?" This 6 week series will intertwine those questions, looking at how Christianity changed and developed and why it was appealing to people in antiquity. Dr. Anne Merideth, Assistant Professor of Religion, Department of Religion and Classics at the University of Rochester, will return to lead these lecture/discussion classes. Registration fee: $30; contact Marge Forth for details.

Poetry as Spiritual Connection [Spring 2010]

kjospe1@rochester.rr.com
Thursdays March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th and April 1st and 8th, 12:30pm - 1:30pm

Naomi Shihab Nye speaks of poetry as a conversation with the world, with words on the page in which you allow those words to speak back to you. Explore and enjoy the music and unspoken meanings of great poems. We will look at poems about everyday life, gravity points, situations that say "Pause, take note! A story is being told here". We will discuss and examine the universal condition of longing triggered by poems so as to appreciate other experiences and words imagining them and share our own. If you cannot make every week or only a few sessions please drop in when you can.

Offered by Kitty Jospé. MA, French Literature, MFA, Poetry. "I have always been inspired by the magic of words and it is my pleasure to share my enthusiasm for the power of language whether in the French or ESOL classroom, in music or in the collaborations which make relationships between words and art, dance as expression of the human heart."
